The Journey of “The Seawall”

THE SEAWALL a SHORT FILM by MASON RICAHRDS- key Art.png

In 2010, The Seawall, a short film by filmmaker Mason Richards, was brought to life in Georgetown, Guyana through the support of generous donors and the fiscal sponsorship of Friends of Guyana.

Filmed entirely on location using local Guyanese non-actors and crew trained in film production, the project became a powerful celebration of Guyanese culture, identity, and storytelling.

After premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in France, The Seawall is now headed to the internationally renowned Venice Biennale in Italy as part of the “Resonance” exhibition curated by Vanderbilt University’s Engine for Art, Democracy and Justice.

This moment is bigger than a film — it is an opportunity to share Guyana’s stories and creative spirit with the world.
